We received this Los Flexi toilet and we are extremely happy with our purchase! Install was extremely easy and that was the first time we ever attempted to do one ourselves. I took one reviewers suggestion and marked the floor beside the bolts with tape so I would know where to set the toilet since the sides are closed. Super easy! The best part is this toilet flushes like a dream. The brand that braggs about being able to flush a bucket of golf balls does not hold a candle to the flushing power of this Los Flexi. I’m sold; best toilet we owned.
We had this toilet in a previous house and loved it so much. We bought one for our new home. I love the easy, clean sides and sleek look.
Kudos to whoever designed the packaging for shipping this toilet. It looks like a forklift gouged the side of it, but inside everything was fine. This toilet design is becoming popular. It is a little more work for whoever sets the toilet as you cannot see the holes for the flange bolts, but the smooth sides make for much less work for whoever has to clean the toilet for years down the road. The supplied soft-close seat works very well.
I like everything about this toilet. It is easy to install, only took about :45 minutes. Two screws hold it to the ground, two screws attach the tank to the base, install handle, and make the water connection. Comes with everything you need, except the water supply hose, which we re-used from the old one. Comes with a nice rubber & wax ring. The porcelain finish is very nice, and the enclosed base is very minimalist, and not only looks better , but will make cleaning easier. The water height adjustment in the tank is also very easy, and has a strong flush. The comfort height and elongated seat are great for tall people like us. And the soft close feature is nice. Overall, highly recommended!
I was thrilled at the opportunity to try the Los Flexi HT17 toilet. It looked nice, and I had been considering a skirted toilet for ease of cleaning. I hate having to clean around the “pipes” at the base – reaching around the toilet, etc.
Something that appealed to me with this particular toilet was that there are large open circles where I could see the bolts coming up from the floor when setting it. Some units don’t have that, and I can’t imagine trying to set it. It seemed practical. If you’re not familiar with these toilets, the back is open. I can imagine that with time, dust will settle in there and you’ll want to vacuum it out. These circles (with plastic covers) will come in handy when I’m ready to suck out the dust with my vacuum hose.
I watched installation videos for skirted toilets and learned about taping the floor so I knew exactly where the bolts were to line up with, and researched the height of flange vs the floor and requirements if not flush or a little above. I was READY.
I opened the box and carefully removed the contents – marveling that the toilet had almost everything needed for installation. I carried all the smaller pieces inside… wax ring, bolts, seat, tank… base. Ummmm base. I should add that I live in a bi-level home. I’m a 5’5” tall woman who is decently strong and is willing to go the mile on a DIY. The base was heavier than anything I could have imagined. I think I read somewhere that this toilet is 101 pounds installed. Most all of that weight is the base.
I decided to call my favorite plumber, because if I had to admit defeat, I was going to call someone who could not only lift the toilet but could draw on prior experience. We worked as a team to install the toilet – so I didn’t let myself off the hook on this install. But I’m here to tell you about it – and that’s the most important part.
Here are some things I learned. Pay attention to your wax ring. In this case, we used the wax ring that came in the box. It has the rubber gasket that leads down into the pipe, and wax. It’s not just the plain wax ring. We also stacked another wax ring on top and really squished the toilet into it. I guess an extra high ring would have been fine… but we already had the one from the box.
Measure how wide your toilet skirt is at the bolts, and then put tape outside that measurement on the floor – where the bolts are. Draw lines on the tape to show exactly where they are. You’re going to want a road map to take it in for the landing as easily as possible. I got on eye level in the shower to confirm that the bolt had passed through the hole in the toilet… but really – I was pretty worthless… I could only see one side. I just felt so guilty while someone else was holding up a 90 pound toilet base trying to land it on two small bolts.
My old toilet was solid – no rocking, no shims. This toilet rocked a little bit, but it was such a small amount. A trick of the trade I learned was that you can use a penny – or in my case, a dime and a penny, to slide under there to stop the rock. It worked! And it only cost $.11! We put clear silicone around the base (front and sides only) to seal it to the floor, seal the dime and penny in place, and make cleaning easier in case you have a “stander” in the house.
Attaching the hose to the tank of the toilet is tricky when you’re a right-handed person. Go at it from the right side of the toilet and reach around/under to do it. The attachment for the hose is up through a hole in the base of the toilet… it seems awkward to reach around the right side when the attachment is on the left, and it is, but you’ll be surprised how much easier it is to screw that water hose on. Long arms are helpful.
The rest of the install is straight forward. The toilet seat is soft-close, and it comes with some interesting expanding bolts that you don’t have to reach around and put wing nuts on. They expand as you tighten – kind of like wall anchors. I would imagine these are available in stores, but I’ve never noticed them before. I hope that when I have to replace the toilet seat/lid, these will still be working or be available in the store!
In addition to attaching the toilet seat, I put my bidet attachment in there. So far, so good – it’s all holding and staying firm.
The toilet is “rimless.” You ask what does that mean – I wondered, too. It means that most toilets send water down around the rim. So when you’re scrubbing your toilet, you scrub up under the rim so that you get all of those water holes where water enters the bowl. This bowl has one hole – and it whooshes the water into the bowl like a cyclone. The tank fills quickly, and it’s rather small. I read that this style of flush is more powerful than traditional toilets, easier to clean and saves water. The tank size supports the water saving aspect.
As I said earlier, I’m 5’5” tall. I read an article that says people who are shorter than that might not want a 17” tall toilet or their feet can dangle. Well, I have a long torso and short inseam. My inseam is 27”, so my feet are not flat on the floor. A potty stool is one fix – or scrunching up the bath mat, but know – if you have a short inseam, this may not be your favorite toilet if you spend a lot of time there.
My final verdict is that this toilet feels and looks fancier than what I had before. The Los Flexi HT17 is a nice toilet and is a good savings from better-known brands of the same style. The toilet does come with a two-year limited warranty.
Love the sleek look and how it goes with our white ceramic tile floor. The taller height is much more comfortable than the standard height that we removed. Assembly was easy enough although the screws holding the seat on had a plastic expanding nut that was difficult to tell when it was tight enough. I finally just kept tightening and figured if it broke I’d call and get a replacement. It didn’t break and tightened nicely. Not the biggest fan of the plastic seat and lid but most are plastic nowadays. Seat is comfortable. Soft close is very slow to close but will probably speed up over time. Everything needed for installation was included.
